La Ferme de Kulun-Bari: An Innovative Educational and Ecological Project in Senegal
In 2022, Ali and Marine, specialized educators with 15 years of experience in the Paris region, relocated to the village of Djilakh, Senegal, with their three children to create La Ferme de Kulun-Bari. Ali, with expertise in specialized prevention and four years as an Educational Service Manager, and Marine, specialized in pediatric care and reintegration, combined their skills to develop this unique project.
When we visit the project was already operational. After several visits and contribution to host Groupes, We Suggest a design that helped to enhancing the visitor experience by suggesting structural improvements and creating biodiversity spots. We assisted the owners in visualizing the project map and provided ideas to further develop the educational and visitor experience with potential future facilities. By incorporating additional permaculture principles and regenerative design techniques, we aimed to enhance the overall experience.
The farm aspires to become an intercultural agri-tourism destination where visitors from Europe can learn about local village life. Through seasonal workshops, we collaborated with Ali and Marine to observe visitor engagement and help them immerse themselves in ecological agricultural practices while understanding the farm's approach. We also planted trees to reduce wind effects and create biodiversity zones, reinforcing the farm's commitment to ecological regeneration.
Beyond farm activities, Ali and Marine work closely with neighboring villages. We explored their other community projects aimed at promoting education, sustainability, and local development. La Ferme de Kulun-Bari is not only an agricultural site but also an educational center and a model for sustainable development in the region.
