HIPPOFARM is an innovative sustainable initiative integrating a poney-club, permaculture garden, and eco-lodge to create an immersive experience in the heart of nature. Ellearchitecture's primary focus was to design the entire farm in line with permaculture principles and sustainability practices to ensure a positive impact on the environment and the community.
The project emphasizes the following aspects for a comprehensive sustainable approach:
1. Water Management: Embracing the concept of a rain-garden to mitigate flooding during the rainy season, promoting efficient water conservation and management.
2. Eco-Lodge Design: Repurposing existing structures using earth and wood, following bioclimatic design principles for low electricity consumption, water recycling systems, and dry toilets to minimize environmental impact.
3. Foodscape and Agriculture: Prioritizing soil health by implementing regenerative agriculture practices, including planting diverse crops and establishing banana circles for water recycling, catering to the needs of the farm and future restaurant.
4. Equestrian Center: Collaborating closely with the owner, Catherine, to ensure the well-being of the horses by designing the building to address their needs and practical requirements.
HIPPOFARM's vision aligns with sustainability and permaculture values, offering a harmonious blend of eco-friendly initiatives and immersive experiences while promoting environmental responsibility and community engagement.
